The Chase Continues…

The ancient vampire Chase returned, and this time he got a hold of Cheri.  He caught her off her guard and made instant eye contact, thralling her.  Once she was in thrall it was easy for him to drink from her.  He even went so far as to steal her voice.

Anya found the scene and began to attack Chase.  After a while, Chase grew bored of the fight and disappeared.

Lock Picking Gone Array

Dante Gregorium decided that he needed more information about Harry and Elena before working for them, despite not having been hired yet.  He ran into Cheri, then began to pick the lock on Elena’s office door, despite Cheri’s warnings that might end poorly.  Elena, having received a text from Cheri about what Dante was doing, came outside from the inner office of Lynn Security, packing heat.

James, Elena’s bodyguard, heard the commotion from the stairwell and entered into the fray, gun out and aimed at Dante.  Dante claimed neither Elena nor James had the guts to shoot, so James fired, shooting him in the knee and telling him that he better not make any mention of once being a warrior, or he’d shoot his eye out next.  Dante’s reaction was to tell them to do it.  Cheri didn’t need to be told twice, smelling the blood from the wound and launching herself at the man, going for an artery.

James shut Elena and himself into Elena’s most inner office, and made sure Harry was informed of what transpired.  When Cheri texted Elena that it was over, Elena insisted on coming out with James, seeing the blood spatter stains everywhere– on the walls, on the floor.  But by the time Elena emerged, both Seraph had shown up as well as Harry.  Elena rushed to Harry’s side, his own bodyguard, Lee, with him.  As they took in the bloody scene, Harry and Seraph finally were introduced, just in time for Dante (who claimed he would make a deal with the devil and rise again) to come back to life, breathing fire.

Seraph’s second nature, the darkness, seeped out around him in smoky black tendrils, and harsh words were exchanged.  Neither Cheri nor Elena wanted Dante left alive, but Harry was uncertain.  If he died and came back, what was the point of killing him?  Dante thanked Seraph for his lenience and had at one point retracted his desire to work with Elena, stating instead he’d rather work for Harry, and claimed he would do something to prove that he was serious.  What he will do remains to be seen.

A Bounty Hunter

Last evening while Harry and Elena were in her office at Lynn Security, having a late supper and talking business about some gifts given to their children that had been analyzed at the lab, with disturbing results, a knock came on the door.  James opened the door to greet Dante Gregorium, a self proclaimed bounty hunter that is new in town, and was hoping he could get a job with Elena.

While Elena might not have thought her staff needed updating, James and Harry are far more willing to admit that the men on her retainer have been rather absent of late.  Though Elena hadn’t expected her reputation with the supernatural to grow and be so well known that newcomers would wish to work with her, that seems to be the price from taking clients and cases over from Hunter Investigations, since Ash Hunter hasn’t been seen in ages.

When questioned, Harry asked if he had only dealt with vampires and werewolves or if he could handle demons and angels as well.  Dante stated that demons were no problem for him, showing off an impressive sword he has supposedly used against them in the past.  Though Dante has yet to be proven, after Harry completes a background check (and Elena likely would as well), it seems that he might have found a new boss.

Ill Met Encounter

Elena was leaving Lynn Security and waiting for her ride when Danny Blythe appeared out of the shadows.  He was trying to figure out who she was, and why he seemed to know her.  She was quite irate that her driver had not arrived, and Danny began to move closer to her, intending to frighten her.  She provided her name when asked, “Elena Mansel.”  He stated he wouldn’t give her his name, since she might go to the cops and claim he’d abused her.  Once Elena asked if he got off trying to intimidate petite women, he seemed determined to gain her submission.

When Danny got closer to her, Cheri appeared in the shadows, and stood back, simply watching.  Keeper, a small vampiric child with red hair, was seen by Cheri exiting an alleyway and counting money taken from a victim.

Danny asked Elena what she did, and she replied a bit of everything, and that she’d ask Mr. Blythe what he did, but she already knew.  Danny was quite shocked and perhaps threatened that she knew his name, dropped the bag of booze he had and grabbed her wrist that was holding her clutch, pulling her against him as he asked what else she knew.  Elena fought to get away, right hand coming out of the bag to reveal a Colt Detective .38 Special.  When Danny saw the gun he shoved her away.

Nickolaus Richter had felt something was off, and had come to see what was going on with Elena.  Although he was no longer her guardian angel, he still wondered if she was alright.  He saw that she seemed to be getting acquainted with some guy, but didn’t step in because he didn’t see the threat.

Luckily, Seraph Lazarus, who had been nearby, did see the threat, and in a mix of ice and vampiric magic, appeared from out of the darkness to grab Elena and set her back down on the ground, unharmed.  He stepped forward, ready to take on the assailant, asking if there was an issue, though he also told Nickolaus that they would be having words later.  It was evident from his demeanor and his entrance that Seraph was raging, and anything that he might do could prove fatal.

Keeper, the small child, had at once gone for Danny’s legs, trying to trip him so he wouldn’t hurt Elena, though Elena couldn’t have seen it at the time, as she was preoccupied.  When Danny claimed there was no problem, and bent over to pick up his discarded bag holding a bottle of booze, he also picked up Elena’s clutch.  Keeper saw right away, and clung to his arm, trying to pry his fingers off to give the bag back.

Danny threw the clutch and Keeper into a garbage bin, and disappeared down the streets.  Seraph, sure that Elena was secure, told Keeper that he had done quite well, ruffling his hair when he came over to them.  Seraph gave Elena a look as if to say “we’ll discuss this later”, before he disappeared once more.

Keeper gave Elena back her clutch, and Elena took out her wallet, and gave him a one hundred dollar bill.  Elena called her husband, who was quite irate that her driver had never showed up (and by now it was three hours past when the driver had been due) and assured her a car would be there as soon as possible.  Elena made certain Keeper would be safe before getting into the car that came.

Keeper went on to use the cell phone of the fallen police officer that he’d accidentally killed, so that way someone would find the body, before he left to get his things from Cheri’s place (Cheri having disappeared at some point during the scuffle), intending to find someplace to stay until the next night.

Popular Hardcore Band Eviscerine Lead Singer Now in Coma

Cheri spotted Danny Blythe, the man she kept seeing around lately, helping out with a band.  One band member made the mistake of calling the vampiress a bitch, which she didn’t respond well to, scaring all of them with her glowing red eyes so that they returned to the night club.

When Danny and Cheri go into the bar and Danny leaves her in the band room to go get her a drink, one of the band members and his girlfriend came over.  The girlfriend, after a heated exchange, called Cheri a bitch.  This time, Cheri reacted quite violently, picking her up by her neck and lifting her a few inches off the ground before dropping her.  This scared both into scampering off.

Danny’s return also announced that the lead singer, Steven, had some sort of issue in the bathroom.  Both Danny and Cheri fled the scene, though Cheri thought that perhaps she should go save Steven.

Steven, lead singer of Eviscerine is now in an induced coma. Continental U.S tour due to kick off in Washington next week cancelled.

Queen Ze’Lucyn

Over the course of several weeks, six homeless men were found dead within a few blocks of the abandoned Drake hotel. Cheri Noble, having noticed that each bore 2 very prim puncture marks in their necks, and that they had been completely passed out and drunk at the time of their deaths, decided to investigate.  Inside the hotel, Cheri found a young woman, who appeared 18.

That woman is quite delusional, speaking to and apparently leading a court of imaginary people.  She introduced herself as Ze’Lucyn Malka, welcoming Cheri to the shambles of the hotel as if it were a magnificent castle.  After Cheri spoke to Ze’Lucyn, it seemed that Ze’Lucyn did understand there is some sort of danger afoot, and she has been vigilantly hunting throughout Toronto, trying to figure out who or what would be targeting her people for such abuse.

Since their initial meeting, Cheri has checked up on Ze’Lucyn and they have gone on a slew of adventures, including meeting a human named Georgie, Seraph Lazarus following Cheri, and meeting a very confused man named Teagan who it seems might have a mixture of demon and vampire heritage.

Major Player Update

Things can be so hectic when one lives in a big city, as all in Toronto have learned throughout the years.  Though updating appeared to take a hiatus, the lives have continued to change, move on, and as always, there is much to mention in the news of the illustrious Toronto By Night.

Ash J. Hunter
Ash had become reclusive, or so one would think.  The truth was that he was off chasing something, though one was never sure what.  For a long time Elena kept up Hunter Investigations in his absence, paying his bills, cleaning the place, taking phone calls and doing the investigations that poured in, sometimes taking Sven or Seraph along if supernatural elements were called for.  When Ash did return for a short bit, he had Elena and Sven in for a meeting, and effectively fired her when he learned she had become connected to a supernatural creature, and he certainly did not approve.  Afterwards, he once again disappeared off, and though the office door continues to say his name, one has to worry who has kept the bills paid.

Cal Sarrion
The ever accident prone Cal managed to have his apartment in Regent Park broken into within the first week of his tenancy, Cal had a hard start at adulthood.  Despite that, he managed to inherit enough money to make his dream a reality and set about to start Keeping Classy– what would become a burlesque club.  He requested Elena become his head of PR, and it was expected that she would likely end up on the stage some nights as well (at least to help with promotions!)  It has been under heavy renovations inside and out for the past few years.

Sven Hazard
Sven had to chose between taking hold of daddy’s supernatural demon empire or leaving all of the factions to open warfare trying to claim the throne. He decided to take control, having a shaky peace at best. He asked Cheri to come and live with him due to their mutual affection towards each other, but ultimately left her a few weeks ago, presumably due to Valentin.

Seraph Lazarus
An old vampire employed by Elena Lynn at Lynn Security, he’s been known to disappear for more than his fair amount of time off work.  Nonetheless he is kept on retainer, and always returns eventually.  On one of these outings, his usual jovial demeanor was replaced by sullen depression; his once normal eyes filled in completely with black.  Although asked, he would not reveal anything except that he was dealing with his past, something he keeps hidden even from his close friends, though his infinite connection with voids and shadows is undeniable.  When Sven once upset Elena, Seraph made certain to set him in his place– though whether or not it was due to her being his boss, or more like a little sister, is unknown.

Cheri Noble
Having turned her first human, Cheri later left Tarric.  Upon reentering society a single girl, she was scooped up and turned into a puppet– a role she rather despised, and escaped from thanks to the witch Skye Nickels.  Unfortunately, the puppeteer culprit was never found.  Returning to the night and darkness, she agreed to be with Sven Hazard, though he recently left her, coincidentally around the same time Valentin revealed himself once again.  Cheri seems to have lost the spark needed to feed herself properly, and has been becoming more and more dark eyed, sullen, and has since the loss of her half demon beau.

Nickolaus Richter
Nickolaus slowly became friends with Cheri and Elena.  Soon after a love potion was placed on him, and he became enamoured with Elena.  It was discovered that the rare breed he is, that he would die unless married.  Elena agreed, but through miscommunication, ended up inadvertently helping him turn into a demon.  He almost died when the witch, Skye Nickels, did a special ritual to change him back to what he was, and he and Elena soon parted ways.  He disappeared to Germany for a while, played at being a talent scout, before finding himself back in Toronto with a new girlfriend, Imogen Harper.  Through another accident with Elena, he recently earned himself a temporary status as Elena’s family guardian– a position that will likely determine his fate.

Harry.
A mobster from London happened into a pizza parlor when Elena and Cheri were having a bite (or Elena was).  Having recognized her from a party with another mobster in California, he and Elena quickly became business associates.  While working on a registry for supernatural creatures that he intended to use for his lab/experiments, Harry and Elena became close.  Through Elena he also met Mephistopheles, Despite likely not planning to settle down so soon, he did fall in love with Elena.  He brought her on a cruise, where she reunited, quite by accident, with a former ballet partner, James Mason.  Once she had met Harry’s family and he had shown her around London, he proposed and she readily accepted.  The two were married, and had twins nine months later.  During that time he met and began considering a business arrangement with Cheri’s Sire, Valentin.  Although happy and in love, Harry recently has been out of contact after stating that he had business in London, and he wouldn’t be gone long.

Elena Lynn
Lost in her work, Elena often traveled back to the US when the opportunity presented itself.  Through her ballet connections, it was easy for her to have at least one source of income.  She fell into an unusual lifestyle due to one of her more intriguing investigations, and for a long time was never seen at night.  During this time period she had played both the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker and Giselle in Swan Lake.  She met Harry while eating pizza with Cheri and had a whirlwind romance, with her leaving ballet in order to have their twins, though she has since returned to both of her jobs.

Mephistopheles
The demon of Faustian legend has been seen across both London and Toronto.  Though no one can pinpoint anything in particular that he’s done, he’s been seen with many, and one never knows who has agreed to a deal, that is, until it gets… messy.

Valentin Thorne
The Sire of Cheri Noble, and her husband, it seems that the vampire has returned to claim what is rightfully his, though he hasn’t approached her, yet.  Having met Elena and Harry, Val casually offered a business arrangement between some of Val’s experiments and Harry’s, and it’s unknown if this ever came to be.  True evil and unpredictability run hand in hand, so it’s hard to say what Val might have in mind to reach his ultimate desires.

A Deal of Similarities

Elder vampire Valentin has been after Cheri Noble, his wife, for centuries.  She has chosen another path and another man but that hasn’t stopped the destruction that Valentin was willing to cause to try to get her back.  Cheri had enlisted the help of a myriad of people to try to keep her safe and get her out of his clutches, including but not limited to Sven Hazard, Skye Nickles, Nickolaus Richter, her fiance Tarric, Seraph Lazarus and the demon Mephistopheles.  In the end it was the last that truly caused some damage.

Mephistopheles came into Lynn Security, entering the side office he used with Seraph to find Cheri there as well.  He was quickly informed that she was having a real problem with the elder vampire that had turned her.  Instantly, he had several rather devious ideas.  Seraph couldn’t come, as his desire to try physical attacks would have negated the careful trap Mephistopheles had in mind.  Mephistopheles led Cheri away from Elena’s office out into the middle of the town before he made a point of casually slipping an arm behind her, holding her waist tightly with his left hand.  He said the right words to provoke the henchmen to show themselves, convinced one to get close enough and grabbed him, using that henchman’s mind about where Valentin was in order to transport them to him.

They entered the mausoleum and Mephistopheles began to set up the deal.  Did Valentin want to have a piece of Cheri forever that would stay willingly with him and never leave him, never stray?  When he greedily nodded his head the deal was done.  As always, Mephistopheles doesn’t offer prices… simply enacts them.  The price for Valentin’s desire was steep.  Anyone in the supernatural world would be in the know in regards to demon’s deals.  They always go through once agreed upon and there is no way to retract them.  The price of Valentin’s desire?  His freedom.  Valentin would now be bound to Mephistopheles for the rest of his life; his underling, his minion, his servant/slave.  What did Valentin get in return?

Mephistopheles flooded the main antechamber, creating a wall, a smokescreen between those around he and Cheri.  He turned to her and apologized, taking three inches off her hair.    He told her that he originally intended to either give Valentin a little voodoo doll, or a sort of Cheri mannequin that looked identical to her, but he suddenly had a better idea.  A prick of her finger and some drops of her blood and he could use some old, ancient, dark magic in order to create a simulacrum.  This new creation was only given one command- to stay with Valentin.  It seemed Valentin now had his desire- Cheri was there with him, staying with him and Valentin would be none the wiser to how truly messy his situation had gotten.

The Chase- Demon Style

Cheri Noble is a beacon for trouble.  It’s odd having a vampire that continuously seems to find a way to become a victim… or is it that the fairly good vampire seems to attract those more malicious of the supernatural world?  Could it be that they are drawn to her light?  Whatever the case Cheri was on the run again, running from the goons of the elder vampire who turned her and forced her to marriage all those years ago.

Luckily for Cheri Toronto has a resident half demon who fights for good, or, namely, for Hunter Investigations.  Sven Hazard stepped up to protect his friend (and potential love interest?) Cheri, using his demonic aura to take the two from the roof of a building down to the basement, ultimately landing in a sewer.  During this chase Sven also managed to hot rod an old car.  The car in question was about to be junked so the owner would have thanked Sven for stealing it.

The only thing known is that Cheri and Sven got away… but to where or for how long is anyone’s guess.
